Post Pill Syndrome - What? Why? How?

Updated: Jun 6, 2020

Thinking of quitting Birth Control? Have you come off The Pill and your periods haven’t returned or are irregular? Are you suffering from acne or hair loss since stopping? 🤯

I have recently had an influx of clients who are suffering with symptoms since coming of The Birth Control Pill, otherwise known as The Pill and it’s got me thinking. 🤔

As young girls, we really aren’t educated on the implications of taking such medications and the side effects certainly aren’t explained in any detail.

I was put on the pill by my GP at 17 because of heavy, very irregular periods and acne which for 15 years, masked the bigger issue that I was suffering with PCOS. The story is the same for my sister and many, MANY others.

What we aren’t told is that the pill floods our body with synthetic hormones and completely over rides our natural and very delicate balance of sex hormones. It stops ovulation, reduces sebum (skin oils) production to child like levels, depletes your body of vital nutrients and this is just the tip of the iceberg. You can imagine that after many years of this, the body is likely to ‘stop bothering’ to produce those hormones...after all, if you snooze, you lose. 🤷🏽‍♀️

When we come off the pill, we are told it can take up to 3 months for our periods to regulate and achieve hormone balance but many, and I’d go as far as to say most women, experience symptoms for months or even years. This is in part because of the body’s new ‘laziness’ after being out of action for so long but also because of major nutrient depletion leading to deficiency (the GP didn’t mentioned that did they?), your skin’s natural oils now over producing after being suppressed for so long, symptoms of PCOS or Hashimoto’s now returning with a bang, hair thinning, anxiety, depression, poor gut health or maybe your periods are regular but you’re not ovulating and therefore are unable to conceive. The list is endless and can be incredibly distressing.

This is known as Post Pill Syndrome.

The good news is, this can be treated naturally and gently through diet and natural remedies and I’m here to show you how!
