THE HOLISTIC APPROACH

The Holistic Approach: Welcome

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?

Homeopathy is a natural and gentle system of medicine that works by stimulating the body’s own healing responses with the use of non-pharmaceutical medicines.

The holistic nature of Homeopathy means that the mind-body connection is considered central in the causation and healing of disease.

Treatment is not based on symptoms alone but how those symptoms effect you as an individual.  A prescription is then based on the mind, body and spirit of an individual with the goal of targeting the root cause of an ailment for genuine relief and long lasting benefits.

Remedies are made from plants, metals, minerals and various other substances which are then highly diluted and given in tablet form.

It works on the premise that ‘like cures like’ which means that a small dose of a substance will cure the same symptoms it causes if taken in large amounts.

For example, the remedy Coffea can be given for insomnia where large amounts of coffee would keep you awake and the remedy Apis which is made from Bee stings is given to reduce similar symptoms like swelling and stinging.

Homeopathy’s gentle nature means that it can be used in pregnancy and on babies and children without risk of side effects.

Used by 200 million people worldwide, studies have shown its effectiveness when compared with placebo and pharmaceutical drugs with no side effects.

WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?

Nutritional Therapy uses nutritional science to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns.

Like Homeopathy, Practitioners understand that each individual is unique and provide personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes based on their current goals, medical issues, family history and lifestyle.

Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and can be used by those suffering with chronic conditions as well as those looking to support, maintain and enhance their health and wellbeing.

Nutritional Therapists aim to empower clients to change their biochemistry to a more balanced state using food and supplementation.

WHY INTEGRATE HOMEOPATHY AND NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?

Both disciplines are highly effective when used alone but when used together have the power to create profound effects by combining biological, psychological and lifestyle changes to restore wellness.

I practice what is known as Functional medicine and while this is not a new concept, it is unfortunately not widely practiced in the UK.

Traditional medicine is disease orientated, treating symptoms rather than the root cause of disease with ‘one-size-fits-all’ pharmaceuticals loaded with side effects and often leaving the patient disempowered.  These side effects are then treated with additional drugs, disempowering the patient further and the cycle continues.

Functional medicine is focused on health rather than disease and works to prevent and relieve symptoms by addressing the root cause using a collaborative patient-practioner approach.

Treatment is always based on the patients bio-chemical individuality and works to educate and empower.

Where Homeopathy comes in is by increasing the body’s energy so it is able to rebalance after months, possibly years of disease, working through past upsets and traumas and assisting in the mind-set shifts that are often required to break unhealthy habits and change lifestyles.

Though Homeopathy is not prescribed alongside conventional medicine in the UK, it is widely available and prescribed by doctors in France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and around the world.

I feel the emphasis is shifting from treating to preventing disease and the understanding of the power of supporting our bodies’ needs through diet, exercise and lifestyle is becoming more widely known, thankfully at a time where it is needed now more than ever.
